There are plenty of advantages for online meetings, particularly in our world that is increasingly virtual. These meetings save time for everyone involved. Attendees can join the meeting without having to leave their desks, or even eat. They don’t have to print documents or connect to an AV system, or take their bags away. Participants can also choose to mute themselves should they need to take a break or check their email.
Another benefit of online meetings is that they tend to be more punctual than in-person meetings. This could be due to the fact that participants don’t have to rush to the bathroom prior calling in or worrying about dressing appropriately. It could be due to the fact that they can choose from a wide range of places that meet their requirements – their homes cafés, their homes or even the beach.
Online meetings can also save business money. A meeting held in person requires the business to pay for a space and refreshments, but this isn’t necessarily the situation when a meeting is held online.
However, there are some disadvantages of online meetings that shouldn’t be ignored. For instance, it may be difficult to keep people’s attention during a meeting when they cannot see each faces. This can result in people checking their emails or checking their social media accounts during the meeting, which isn’t an ideal situation for a productive meeting. Meetings held online aren’t able to provide the same level communication because people can’t discern non-verbal body language cues.
